So its that time of year again in the Norbury household, you will all know the pain of opening that home insurance renewal. It’s a magical event where you will stare in wonder at the renewal figure and wonder if you have actually bought a few Van Gogh’s and started collecting Rolex’s without actually realising it.
This year my insurance didn’t do the usual gentle creep where you weigh up if it’s worth the time and energy to sit on hold for what seems like a week to argue that £50 per annum increase, which would just mean one less meal deal a month for me. This year my insurance skyrocketed by over 50% compared to last year, after checking that we were not actually storing the crown jewels in the under stairs cupboard I settled myself in for the trawl through price comparison websites and direct insurance brokers to see what I could do about it.
Now as you would expect working in the mortgage industry I have a good handle on what levels of cover I require for my property and belongings but that comes with dealing with it daily, helping my clients work out what it would actually cost to replace their belongings in the result of a total loss, think returning home and there being a crater and a wisp of smoke. Most clients immediately think of their big expensive items such as Tv’s and computers etc however in the event of a total loss you need to be thinking of knives, forks and spoons upwards.
Leaving yourself under insured could almost be as devastating as having nothing in place at all. Here at A Move we review our client’s current insurance to make sure it does suit what they need and that they are getting a policy tailored to them with a budget that doesn’t make their eyes water. Don’t be thinking that you can only get this advice if you look to use us for mortgage purposes, we are happy to sit and review any of your current insurance policies to make sure that it provides what you need it to.
